Break out those stonewashed jeans, a ripped t-shirt, and fringed leather jacket and get ready for the night of your life! Melissa Etheridge: The Rock Show is coming to The Washington Center for the Performing Arts on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. Since 1988, when her self-titled debut album went double platinum, Melissa Etheridge has been entertaining fans with her raspy, soulful voice and high energy performances.
This tour is an accumulation of Etheridge’s incredible, decades-long career. Rock out to familiar hits including Grammy-winning song “Ain’t It Heavy” and “Come to My Window,” which earned Etheridge her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance. You are guaranteed a good time with this award-winning performer, who is also an award-winning songwriter – Etheridge one Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996 and an Academy Award for Best Song for “I Need to Wake Up,” written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth.
In case that wasn’t enough to make you love Etheridge, she is not just a spectacular singer, songwriter and performer. Etheridge braved public opinion when she talked about her sexual orientation, back when it was not something others made known. To this today, she is a passionate supporter of LGBT civil rights. In June 2016, she release the song, “Pulse,” which was written in reaction to the mass shootings in Orlando Florida. All proceeds from the sale of the song went to Equality Florida, the state’s largest LGBT civil rights organization. She is also an outspoken breast cancer survivor, who showed the meaning of bravery when she performed a tribute to Janis Joplin at the 2005 Grammy awards after losing her hair.
