Community members and senior citizens gathered at the Olympia Senior Center for a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, June 7, 2018, to unveil the new logo and marketing efforts for Care Connection. Care Connection is a program of Senior Services for South Sound and provides in-home caregiver placement, family consultations and support for families providing or seeking care.

A small but devoted staff have been connecting the elderly in Thurston County and beyond with in-home care to allow senior citizens to continue living at home by providing services such as housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, companionship, and more.

Sarah Hannapel is a development associate and marketing outreach coordinator for Senior Services for South Sound and has spent the last six months working on Care Connection’s rebranding efforts.

“We always say this is a place to come to not get old,” Hannapel says. “Our members are constantly growing, improving themselves, learning. People bring their own hobbies and interests and passions to share with the group. And for seniors aging at home, we meet their needs by bringing care to them to keep them as comfortable as possible.”

Staff spoke to the mutually beneficial relationship of their clients and caregivers, stating that most notably, caregivers are paid higher at Care Connection than at other organizations ($17-19/hour), and are able to make their own schedules based off their client’s needs.

“Our caregivers are their own business and there are less limitations in the kinds of services we can provide,” Hannapel says. “They are in control of their own destiny here and end up having a deeper relationship with our clients. It’s really a win-win.”

Care Connection is always looking for caregivers and independent providers. If you would like to get involved, please contact April Slee, Care Connection Director, at 360-586-4491 or email slee@southsoundseniors.org.
