Special events are what bring our community together. They allow us to immerse our families in a common space and enjoy each other’s company.

The Lacey Spring Fun Fair has been doing just that since 1988, completely free of charge. Through free entertainment, rides, live performances and local vendors, this year’s fair on May 19 and 20 is sure to be the best yet.

Kids’ World

The first stop for many families during the fair is the Kids’ World section. More than 40 booths are set up in this area to entertain kids of all ages. Basketball, face painting and crafts are just the start once inside the pavilion. But kids are limited to the inside hall, outside there is even more to explore! Rides, inflatables, pony rides and cop cars are some of the highlights that shouldn’t be missed.

Entertainment

Take in a show or listen to music while attending this year’s fair from two entertainment stages. From the smooth sounds of Aspire Middle School for the Performing Arts’ talented jazz band to the pounding of River Ridge High School’s taiko drums, local music will be a pinnacle part of this year’s fair.

Dance will also be highlighted with performances from skilled groups, including Mas Uda Dancers & Olympic Ballroom Dance. Many of the dance troupes in our community will take the stage to show off their talented moves. For a full list of incredible performances during your visit, see the daily stage schedule.

Do you want to be a part of the entertainment? Check out the annual Lip Sync Contest on Sunday, May 20, at 2:00 p.m. You can compete on your own or in a group to be the best lip syncer in town. Cash prizes are provided by TwinStar Credit Union for first, second and third place. As a participant or an audience member, the battle is always a blast!

Vendors

While the Lacey Spring Fun Fair is all about free fun for the family, the vendors are worthy of checking out too. Especially the food! The food available at this year’s event spans from tacos and barbecue, to satay and crepes. Always popular elephant ears will also be on hand so be sure to bring a few bucks and an appetite.

Along with mouthwatering food options, local artisans will be selling handmade items and art. Baby clothes, glass designs, jewelry and woodcrafts are just a few of the one-of-a-kind products available. It’s an amazing opportunity to find an item that is not only made in our community, but it may even be created by a neighbor.

Commercial vendors will also be available to explore. It’s an excellent opportunity to speak with representatives from companies that help to support this event. Many of these vendors participate in giveaways and deals specifically for the Lacey Spring Fun Fair so be sure to check them out!

Special Attractions

Yet another thing at the Lacey Spring Fun Fair not to miss are the special attractions. These are usually things that are above and beyond the expected at a free event. This year, attendees can expect ballistic swings, a circus train, a Ferris wheel, rock wall, Elite Mobile Gaming, Lacey Pocket Gophers Soccer Team and free haircuts from Olympia Barber School.

The annual Lacey Spring Fun Fair Car Show is a fan favorite that takes place on Sunday, May 20, beginning at 11:00 a.m. This year, the fair is trying out on-site registration. For $20, classic car owners can park their vehicle and attempt to win the trophies, plaques and prizes. Car enthusiasts have the opportunity to vote for fan favorites and tour vehicles from all over Thurston County.

With so much going on, you better believe that getting to the fair and parking can be a pain. To avoid crowded parking lots, park at South Sound Center near Sears and hop onto the free shuttle. It runs often to and from the fair during the two days and makes the whole fair experience a breeze.

Add this tradition of community and free fun to your calendar May 19 and 20 at Saint Martin’s University.
