Attention Yelm Star Wars fans: Costumed Star Wars Characters are heading your way. On May 25, Yelm Cinemas will host a premiere of Solo: A Star Wars story, the next installation in the popular series. In honor of the film, a Costumed Star Wars Characters group will once again turn out in full force – dressed as well-known characters. The ensemble of Star Wars enthusiasts is part of a state-wide organization that dresses in costume and interacts with the public at related events.

Yelm Cinemas has hosted such celebrations for every new film in the series, starting with The Force Awakens in 2015, Rogue One in 2016 and The Last Jedi in 2017. At the most recent showing, the character group brought a life-size replica of a famous Star Wars character. “It was working and making noise,” says Noah Aden, manager. “Kids could pose and interact with it.”

Aden, a serious Star Wars fan, came up with the concept of turning premieres into larger celebrations in 2015 and the event has continued to grow every year. “The last one was really big,” he says. “It was a different atmosphere because I think people had waited longer for The Last Jedi to be released. It was really fun to see the packed lobby and people hanging out with characters, having their pictures taken.” Some guests also came dressed in costumes of their own.

For the latest premiere, Solo-themed decorations will cover the lobby and the theater will hand out themed tubs and cups for customers. On Tuesday night before the showing, Uptown Lounge next door will be hosting a Star Wars trivia night and offering a themed cocktail.

Anyone is welcome to attend the premiere. “Come down and hang out. You don’t have to have a movie ticket to get your picture taken with the characters. Everyone’s welcome.”

Reserve your tickets now by visiting the Yelm Cinemas website or by downloading our Yelm Cinemas app.
