As the camping season comes to the Olympic Peninsula, the Olympic National Forest is pleased to announce opening dates for its campgrounds and provide updates of its day use sites.

The Hood Canal Ranger District will open campgrounds at noon on the dates listed:

    • Seal Rock Campground – April 26
    • Satsop Campground – May 1
    • Coho Campground – May 18
    • Brown Creek, Big Creek, Hamma Hamma, Lena Creek, and Collins Campgrounds opening – May 18th
    • Falls View will not be opening this season, work will be done to remove root rot infected trees
    • Dungeness Forks Campground may open by Memorial Day – there was considerable storm damage to the campground which will need to be cleaned up first

Winter storms have left much debris on trails and caused some slides on roadways of the Forest.  Following cleanup of a slide leading to the Mt. Walker overlook, the gate leading to the overlook is expected to be opened by April 20.  Due to storm damage, the Bear Gulch Picnic Area will offer limited amenities this year.  The road to Staircase is expected to be open by Memorial Day.

The Pacific Ranger District announced the following campground openings in the Quinault area:

  • Willaby – April 15
  • Falls Creek – May 1, weather permitting
  • Gatton Creek – May 1, weather permitting

Campgrounds in the Forks area still have storm repair construction going on and opening dates for those campgrounds will be announced at a later time.
