Submitted by Marta Fowler for Olympia Symphony

The Olympia Symphony is celebrating 64 years of providing live, local, and excellent classical music to the South Sound, and invites you to join in the celebration at its “Elegance with a Touch of Whimsy” event May 13 at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club.

Through performances, education, and outreach, the Olympia Symphony provides the highest quality of live music to enrich, educate, and entertain our community.  The Symphony and its conductor, Huw Edwards, are praised by both critics and fellow musicians as “gems” of the Northwest’s classical music scene.

In addition to ticket sales, the Olympia Symphony relies on the generous support of sponsors, grantors, foundations, local businesses, volunteers, and individual donors to continue providing excellent live symphonic music to our community year after year.  The Symphony values collaboration with local performing arts ensembles, as well as outreach performances.   However, it is only able to give back to the community with the support of additional funding to sustain and supplement its budget.

The annual gala and auction is the Olympia Symphony’s primary fundraising event, and an excellent opportunity to meet other supporters and learn more about the Symphony’s mission and vision. The “Elegance with a Touch of Whimsy” evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with complementary sparkling wine and appetizers, accompanied by a string quartet playing light classical and popular favorites, appropriately including the Beatles’ “When I’m 64.”  Patrons will view and bid on a silent auction filled with unique and interesting items.  Then a delicious planked wild caught salmon and steak filet dinner will be served, along with complementary red or white wine, sides and dessert.

The live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a spirited “Heads or Tails” coin toss competition, and then auctioneer Steve Bean and Olympia’s Mayor Cheryl Selby will encourage the audience to bid on unique, exciting auction items and experiences only available at this event. There will be dancing and celebration after the auction until 11 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Clarus Eye Centre and Thurston First Bank. Tickets are $125 per person, and can be purchased at the Olympia Symphony website or by calling (360) 753-0074. Please RSVP by May 8.
