For decades, Hawaiian students attending Saint Martin’s University have pooled their talents and culinary skills to bring the area community an authentic island tradition to enjoy. Lu’au 2017, presented by the University’s Hawai’i Club, will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Saint Martin’s Marcus Pavilion, 5300 Pacific Ave. SE.

Themed “Lōkahi,” meaning “unity,” the lu’au will be an evening for everyone to come together for a traditional Hawaiian feast, music, dancing, entertainment from several South Seas cultures and activities to keep the “keiki” – kids – entertained.

“Luau is the most exciting time of the year for the Hawai’i Club because it gives us an opportunity to spread our rich culture in the community,” says student Jase Kugiya, the club’s president. “It’s the biggest student-run event on the Saint Martin’s campus, and we pride ourselves on being able to host this event every year. It’s amazing to think that there has been a Hawaii connection with Saint Martin’s University since the early 1960s. At that time there were only five or so students from Hawaii, but now there are over 30,” he says.

“’E komo mai’ – join us,” says Kugiya. Tickets can be purchased at the University’s Trautman Union Building (TUB) on campus, 5000 Abbey Way SE, or online at www.stmartin.edu/luau Pre-event tickets are $15; $10 for kids -12 and Saint Martin’s employees and alumni; and $5 for Saint Martin’s students with valid ID. There’s no charge for children five and younger. All tickets purchased at the door are $15.
