The Port of Olympia Commission is happy to welcome six new members to the twelve member Port of Olympia Citizens Advisory Committee (POCAC).

Judy Hoefling, Greg Johnson, Scott Liljedahl, Travis Matheson, Jerry Wilkins and Thomas Woodruff join POCAC members Jim Broman, Greg Bucove, Bill Garson, Tim Knittle, Peter Overton and Richard Wolf.

“We have a great group with diverse backgrounds that care about making the Port a better place for all in Thurston County. We couldn’t be happier with the wealth of knowledge and energy they bring to the committee. We look forward to working with them,” Port Commissioner, Bill McGregor stated.

The Citizens Advisory Committee comprises 9-12 citizen volunteers who meet monthly, or as needed, to address assignments from the Commission. Individual members also may be asked to participate with Port staff on a range of Port programs and projects. The committee has contributed citizen advice and assistance to the Port since the Commission formed it in 1994.

Previous projects completed by the POCAC include Comprehensive Plan Land Use Plan Update, NewMarket Industrial Campus Development Alternatives Study, Commission Redistricting, Marine Fuel Dock Public Participation, Small Cities Program Report, and Naming Convention and Protocols. In 2017, the committee will be investigating and reporting back to the Commission on the following projects: Marine Fuel Pricing, Business Diversification – Best Practices, Port of Olympia Name Change, Port Cargoes Background and Public Involvement.

Port Commissioner Bill McGregor, Port Executive Director Ed Galligan and the Chair of the committee interviewed applicants and recommended appointments to the Commission at the December 12, 2016 Commission meeting. Criteria for selection included being a Thurston County resident, community and economic development activities; volunteer, board or committee experience; work experience; experience or knowledge of the Port; and reasons for serving.
