For what seems like an eternity, the talk around the nation, state and Thurston County has been about the 2016 elections. Every political commentator has been giving us endless analysis, while social media has transformed into a battleground of ideological arguments covering nearly every political topic.

Hometown logoGood news – the end is very near!  On Tuesday, November 8, voters will turn in their ballots and election auditors will being counting votes. For many, it will be a time of celebration and excitement, best shared with a large group of like-minded individuals. Around the South Puget Sound, a handful of locations will show results as they come in, giving you a public forum to witness the next chapter in American history.

One classic Olympia destination to watch the election results “pour” in is at the Brotherhood Lounge at 119 Capitol Way. Starting at 3:00 p.m., gather around with your friends, family or coworkers, sip some cocktails and watch the first reports on the Bro-Ho’s nine foot screen. Happy hour runs until 7:00 p.m., letting you enjoy cheap libations before the next commander in chief is elected. The atmosphere at The Brotherhood Lounge can be a bit raucous, but after the last four months of politics, I promise it will seem tame, reserved and maybe even friendly. In 2008, after President Obama won his first victory, crowds streamed out of The Brotherhood, meeting up with numerous patrons from other bars for a celebration in the streets that lasted for hours.

Also downtown, the Last Word Books and Press will be holding an event for the 2016 election. Starting when the first polls close at 4:00 p.m., the downtown Olympia store will be streaming and celebrating election results until a winner is decided in the Presidential race. If you enjoy political talk, with an Olympia twist, visit Last Word Book for election night. Chat with community members about progressive issues, or try to convince those in attendance why they should have supported your candidate. Either way, keep it civil and enjoy your community as we celebrate the power of democracy.

Politically, Thurston County has a larger contingent of Democratic Party voters than Republican voters. While the Thurston County Republicans don’t appear to have anything planned for their election day party, the Thurston County Democrats will be holding a celebration on November 8. Located at the old Alpine Experience Store at 408 Olympia Ave NE, the Thurston County Democrats will be having a victory party, with elected officials in attendance. Starting at 7:00 p.m. and lasting until 9:30 p.m. or so, this is a great way to meet your new elected representatives and office holders in person. Results will be streamed in live and the conversations will be intense. If you want to see Olympia politics in person, attending this election party is exactly what you need.

Finally, for those wanting to host their own party or to watch the election results in the privacy of your own home, TCTV will be streaming live results, both on television and the internet, free from any spin or bias all night long. Watch the elections through a local lens, celebrating our state and our communities.
