What sets this fun run/walk/race apart is that it’s all about the season.

Festive run “zones” keep the kids going throughout the race. There will be a Scarecrow Land, Pumpkin Patch, Ghosts in the Graveyard and other surprises. All who take part are invited to dress up. Last year featured superheroes, the cast of “Wayne’s World,” pirates, statues, witches, togas and a penguin. Kids 10 and under are free with paying adults.

After the run, everyone gets to celebrate. There’s a concert and party on the plaza in front of the Hands on Children’s Museum. Prizes are given for pumpkin carving and costumes. Vendors will be on hand with giveaways and snacks. Plus there’s a raffle ($5 tickets available at the event) for a free overnight stay and $50 dining credit at Lucky Eagle Casino.

What’s even better is that all the proceeds from this event go to help youth right here in our community. CYS serves more than 6,000 youth and families in South Sound annually, including those who are homeless, in foster care or at-risk in other ways.

The race starts in front of the children’s museum, 414 Jefferson Street NE, in downtown Olympia. To sign up, or learn more, see www.CommunityYouthServices.org.
