Each year, as summer comes to an end, the Lacey Parks & Recreation Department and Cool Creek Nites Car Club have partnered to present a car show highlighting local car enthusiasts and encouraging classic car owners to come to Lacey. That partnership has joined with the Lacey South Sound Chamber to bring the community together for a fun day in the park for all ages with car related games and activities, a variety of vendors, and great entertainment in addition to all the great cars to admire. This year’s Summer’s End Car Show is Saturday, September 17, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Huntamer Park.  Admission is free for spectators.

Since the inaugural show in 2002, the Cool Creek Nites Car Club members have volunteered their time to assist with the car show and then used a portion of the registration fees from this show and a couple of other car shows they host  to purchase defibrillators for volunteer fire departments all over Thurston County. The expensive piece of equipment was very much appreciated by the recipients. “Last year we realized we had supplied all of the departments in the area with defibrillators and we needed to focus on something else” says Graeme Sackrison, current president of the car club (and one of the original organizers of the event). “So we asked departments what else might be needed, and we were able to purchase a ‘specialized gurney’ for Bald Hills Fire Department, and now we plan to provide the Tenino Fire Department with a gurney of their own.”

Car Show participants can feel good about where their registration fees are going.  This year, the good just keeps on giving with the addition of the Lacey Fire District 3 participating through the raffle to raise funds for their emergency charity fund. They also will be there in full force with a variety of vehicles on display and some cool interactive activities for kids and adults to experience. They are also helping to organize the entertainment on the stage for the day. In addition, the Lacey Boys and Girls Club will have a fund raiser of their own going on at the car show, and this one is super easy to participate in. For those that take a test drive of one of the new Fords on display at the car show, Mullinax Ford will donate $20 to the club.

In addition to all the good you can do at the Summer’s End at Lacey car show, there is also lots of fun to be had. The Lacey Sunrise Lions manage the car related games including the piston toss and the lug nut challenge for kids and adults with prizes at stake for the most accurate and the fastest. For those participating in the car show with their vehicle, they can enjoy the friendly competition of a poker walk as they wait to see if they are the winner of one of over 50 different award categories. And, in celebration of Lacey’s 50th Anniversary, we have a special award to be given to a 1966 vehicle entry.

All makes, models and years (including motorcycles) are invited to participate. Register before September 9 for $15 or at the gate on September 17 for $20.  Contact Lacey Parks and Recreation at 360-491-0857 or visit the Summers End Car Show online for more information.
