“The fair mascot election is a wonderful opportunity for kids not just to learn about voting, but to actually do it,” said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall. “Kids vote on real ballots, use real federal elections equipment, and even get an “I Voted” sticker. Parents seemed to enjoy this opportunity to begin and continue the process of good citizenship for their children.”

Fair Board President Peggy Jo Zimmerman said, “The kids’ vote for Rudy Rabbit is fantastic. She will be a great Fair mascot next year!” She said, “The Fair’s partnership with the Thurston County Auditor’s Office and 4H is a fun way for our kids to have hands on experience with civic engagement.”

This year’s fair mascot was Dabney Duck, for whom the majority of kids voted for at the 2015 fair.
