After seven years as the Lacey Parks and Recreation Director, Lori Flemm has retired.

During Lori’s tenure, Lacey’s parks and open space grew from 500 acres to over 1,200—making it the largest parks system in Thurston County.

“You will not find a bigger champion for parks and recreation programs,” stated City Manager Scott Spence.  “Lori, with the help of her staff, took a strong city parks program and made it even better by adding more events, activities, and acquiring additional open space all for the benefit of the community.”

Flemm was also responsible for successfully applying for and securing numerous grants for the City.  One of the most notable she assisted with was a $1 million federal Community Development Block Grant, which helped expand the Virgil S. Clarkson Senior Center, doubling the size of the facility to 10,000 square-feet, allowing for the increase in programming and services.

Lori Flemm may best be known for her volunteer efforts while working for the City of Lacey.

“All awards and accomplishments aside, I think Lori is best known for her commitment to volunteer programs and giving back to our community,” commented Mayor Andy Ryder. “I’ve seen her pulling ivy, scooping ice cream, restoring trails, and really doing whatever it is that needs to be done.  She will be sorely missed, and the City of Lacey is a better place because of Lori’s hard work and commitment to our parks.”

In the coming month, the City will initiate a comprehensive search and selection process to hire a new Director of Parks and Recreation.
