Business Examiner Media named SCJ Alliance the 2016 Top Place to Work as a medium-sized employer. The award was announced on the same day as SCJ’s 10-year anniversary, May 16, 2016.

Business Examiner judges noted they were impressed by the extent to which SCJ’s core values are evident in the firm’s day-to-day atmosphere.

SCJ President Perry Shea said the honor means more than most. “Our core values — trust, stewardship, compassion, integrity, freedom — are a very real guide for how we do business. We look for more than technical expertise; we hire for character. Receiving this award shows us passion for these ideals is echoed throughout our team.

In an anonymous survey, one employee said SCJ has “leaders who believe as if the primary purpose of business is improving the lives of people.”

SCJ Senior Vice President Jean Carr shared, “We believe in supporting a work/life balance and nurturing characteristics like innovation, respect, collaboration, accountability, creativity and fun. I’m proud to see it’s working.

Another surveyed employee said, “I’ve never worked somewhere that I felt was so supportive of advancing my professional goals and interests. They truly want us to realize our full potential, and they strive to facilitate that.”

SCJ Alliance is a nationally-recognized, award-winning company specializing in civil engineering, transportation planning & design, environmental & urban planning, landscape architecture & design, and public outreach. Founded in 2006 as Shea Carr Jewell, SCJ has grown steadily from three employees in one location, to a dynamic team of nearly 70 employees in five locations.

“For ten years, we have aimed to create a compassionate workplace,” said Shea. “We know that when we acknowledge and care for the needs of our staff, success for our clients, our firm and our people will follow.”
