Submitted by the Washington House Democrats
Two students at Reeves Middle School in Olympia served as pages during the first week of March in the Washington State House of Representatives. Raeauna Watkinson and Ellie Glock spent the week getting a firsthand look at the legislative process.
Sponsored by state Rep. Sam Hunt (D-Olympia), Raeauna is the daughter of Kathy and Laurence Watkinson.
Ellie, the daughter of Jenna and Kirk Glock, was sponsored by Barbara Baker, Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives.
Pages perform a wide variety of responsibilities, from presenting the flags to distributing amendments on the House floor. In addition to contributing to the efficient operation of the Legislature, pages receive daily civics instruction, draft their own bills, and participate in mock committee hearings.
