If you’re looking for fun, free activities to keep your kids from going stir-crazy on a dreary winter day, mark your calendars to visit the WET Science Center this January. The WET Science Center, run by the LOTT Clean Water Alliance, has been closed since late November during installation of some exciting new exhibits and interactive games.

The WET Science Center is run by LOTT Clean Water Alliance and offers a free, fun place for kids and families to learn about keeping Puget Sound clean.

The WET Science Center has seen tens of thousands of visitors since its original opening in 2010 and this will be its first major exhibit upgrade. LOTT makes an effort to stay innovative in all aspects of operation and its WET Science Center is no different; the new exhibits will focus partly on community issues that have emerged since its opening over five years ago.

Since the WET Science Center welcomes visitors of all ages – from toddlers to grandparents – the updates also take into account diverse age groups so that everyone can leave having learned something new. Families with young children will be especially excited to explore new hands-on activities designed to engage young visitors.

Here is a preview of the upcoming updates:

  • Explore the Animals of Puget Sound:  A hands-on exhibit for younger visitors that highlights the marine life in Puget Sound.
  • Pumps, Pipes, and Gears – Be a Plant Operator: This tactile exhibit for younger visitors puts them to work on the pumps, pipes, and gears that keep a treatment plant in operation.
  • Down the Drain? That Could be a Pain!:   A game on what not to flush lets visitors scan various household items to find out how they can be a pain once they go down the drain.
  • Chemistry Changes Everything:  Discover the changing molecules and chemistry

  • Explore Your Urban Water Cycle:  A large touchscreen game about the urban water cycle allows you to see how water moves through our communities, how a septic system works, how reclaimed water is infiltrated back into the ground, and more.
  • Reclaimed Water Infiltration Study:  Learn more about LOTT’s groundbreaking study and how the results will influence local decision-making into the future.
  • Channel H20:  This video kiosk showcases fun water-related videos for kids and adults.
  • Sign in Electronically:  Electronic sign-in stations will be located at both entrances to reduce waste and save paper.
