Here in our own community, women who attend South Sound Women’s Day on Saturday, October 10, 2015 on the campus of South Puget Sound Community College will experience a stimulating, unstoppable energy. Oprah Winfrey became known for it, from the moment she first dabbed at her eyes, shared a tragic personal story and embraced a tearful guest, when the books she recommended were read in every book club everywhere, as her probing, intimate questions revealed countless, unexpected commonalities among women.

What was that powerful thing that made The Oprah Winfrey Show stand apart from the sensationalism of other daytime talk shows and catapulted Oprah herself to become the legend-in-her-own-time, iconic woman that she is today?

That thing was the electric, inexorable energy that happens when women come together, when they suddenly feel safe enough to let their guard down, supported enough to share their feelings and fears, and committed enough to want to help each other get where they’re going. At South Sound Women’s Day, that same energy will be present for all attendees to relish in.

Once the Oprah show started speaking essentially to women, in real terms, about real women’s issues – health, wealth, spiritual fulfillment, influence, potential, life goals – The Oprah Winfrey Show became the highest rated talk show in American television history.

Oprah and her producers saw, and then built on, an incredibly powerful energy source. What they understood was the strength of women in numbers, the potential impact of women cheering each other on, the amazing combustion that happens to women, among women, when it’s just women. They share a mutually nurturing and supportive mindset, a safety net woven from their vast range of life lessons, a forum to share what they know, learn what they need to, applaud each other’s strengths, and discover new paths to success and fulfillment.

With a dynamic group of women at South Sound Women’s Day teaching, sharing, learning, encouraging, celebrating, and empowering one another, attendees will enjoy an exciting, powerful and busy day packed with activity, inspiration, creativity and laughter. And, when you head home at the close of the event, you’re sure to take with you a renewed sense of who you are, what you aspire to do, and how you can achieve your goals.

The day-long program gets underway at 8:00 am, when the SPSCC Student Union Center opens its doors for registration and networking.  Introductions and acknowledgments follow, with opening remarks from the YWCA of Olympia, priming participants and setting the tone for a full day of inspiration, sisterhood and fun.

Breakout sessions take place throughout the day, with a dozen workshops to choose from. Whether you want to increase your business and self-confidence, make your money go further, negotiate the salary you deserve, learn time-saving cooking tips or become more savvy at social media marketing for your business, there’s a workshop for you.

Following a healthful and filling lunch from Elyse’s Catering, keynote presenter Marilyn McKenna, an online nutrition coach and health, happiness and fitness blogger, will speak on being Happy and Healthy, From the Inside Out! Her story is one of realizing her own potential, but it’s also very much about how to find your own. She will help all of the South Sound Women’s Day attendees unleash our own hidden potential so that we can become a fierce agent for change within our own life and redirect the trajectory of our family’s health and wellness. With her trademark determination, honesty, and “take no prisoners” online persona, Marilyn was recognized in 2013 as the Best Local Twitter Personality by KING 5’s Best of Western Washington.

Throughout the day, stroll the exhibitor area and enjoy a variety of local business showcasing their goods and services. Be sure to stop by the wellness area for a chair massage.  A hosted Happy Hour including networking will cap off the fulfilling day.
