Unmask3-001Summer at the Library is for everyone, from birth through high school. It’s a fun-filled journey of discovery that keeps kids, teens and families coming back year after year.

Between the last day of school and Labor Day, Timberland Regional Library (TRL) will present over 700 programs that blend reading with all kinds of summer excitement. This year, the focus is on heroes and the things heroes do. There will be heroic games and stories, comedy, puppet shows, plays, music and magic.

Summer’s Best Destination

Each year, starting in October, librarians begin to prepare for summer. By early June, they are eager to share exciting new programs and beloved favorites that make the library a summer destination of choice. Even with all the books, computers, toys, games, movies and events, it is often the librarians that are the biggest draw for young patrons. Librarians listen and talk, laugh, play and share their love of reading and discovery. For some kids, their favorite librarians might seem like superheroes.

For children, this year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.”

There will be superhero story times, guessing jars, movies and scavenger hunts. Hometown heroes – fire-fighters and police officers – will talk about how they keep people safe. Kids will get crafty at superhero “crafternoons” and graduate from Superhero Training Academy.

For a complete list of activities, go to children and family programs on the website.

District-wide, featured performers, web links and program titles are listed below:

The Food and Book Drive offers everyone the opportunity to be a community hero. All summer long, libraries will accept nonperishable food items and new or gently used children’s books. All donations will go to local food banks.

UnmaskSlogan - TRLFor Teens, the Theme is “Unmask.”

Teens will find their local libraries great places to hang-out, meet new friends and have their own kind of fun – writing groups, arts and crafts workshops, book clubs, conversation, cosplay. In many libraries, the Marvel superhero movies will play in sequence, and whenever possible, there will be snacks. For a complete list of activities, please go to Summer Reading programs for teens on the website.
