The public is invited to attend the re-dedication of the historic Olympia Eagles Club Building located at 805 4th Avenue East.  The event will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1p.m. This event marks the success of several major exterior renovations that renewed both the specific Eagles Building as well as restoring a significant gateway to downtown Olympia. Festivities will include the dedication of a new commemorative plaque; tributes from local dignitaries; tours of the building; and refreshments.

The Olympia Eagles Aerie 21 was originally instituted on May 31, 1899.  The current Olympia Eagles Club building was originally dedicated on February 1, 1927. In the past 88 years, the Eagles Club has served as a social hub and a center of charitable fundraising for a broad range of community services and organizations, including:  Safeplace, the Procession of the Species, the Humane Society, Capital City Pride, as well as many other local charities.  They continue to raise money to help fund the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center (FOE DRC) at the University of Iowa (UI).

Often times the “greenest” or most environmentally sound building is the older building that is not demolished.  This three story building was originally constructed using many locally-sourced building materials which are now preserved rather than wasted.  Restoration work over the past year has brought the building back to vibrancy and has inspired a new wave of membership.  The exterior painting project was a volunteer-lead project funded with local donations from people who recognize the value of this historic asset.  Windows were replaced with a grant from Puget Sound Energy, with the old windows being re-used in other construction projects. Other renovation efforts continue.
