Subaru’s “Share the Love” event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to Thurston and Mason counties seniors.

Senior Services for South Sound is proud to announce its continuing partnership with Hanson Motors Subaru this holiday season to help fight senior isolation and hunger. This partnership will raise community awareness and participation to support local seniors in need. This local effort is part of the Meals On Wheels Association of America’s participation in Subaru of America, Inc.’s national year-end “Share the Love” event, designed as a way for Subaru retailers to give back to their local communities.

“Hanson Motors is one of our largest supporters. They collect food for seniors, are a sponsor of our programs and partner with us for Share the Love.” said Eileen McKenzieSullivan, Executive Director of Senior Services for South Sound.

As a proud Subaru “Share the Love” event charitable partner, local Meals On Wheels Member programs that partner with Subaru retailers are eligible to earn grants of up to $35,000. This can provide an extra layer of support to help deliver nutritious meals and other important services to senior in Thurston and Mason counties.

“$35,000 will go along way in our community. Each year we serve over 110,000 meals to over 2,700 seniors in our community. Even serving that number seniors we estimate that there are over 6,600 additional seniors in need of daily meals. Each month the number of seniors we are serving grows. Our funding just isn’t keeping up with the demand.” Eileen added.

“Subaru retailers and Meals On Wheels have worked together since 2008, helping deliver one million meals to seniors every day,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals On Wheels Association of America. “We are truly honored to be one of Subaru’s national charities for the seventh consecutive year. Their vital support enables us to power local communities in their fight against senior hunger and isolation all year long.”

For every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 20, 2014, through January 2, 2015, Subaru will donate $250 to the purchaser’s choice of participating. By the end of this, the seventh “Share the Love” event, Subaru will have donated $50 million to charity over the past six years – including the delivery of one million meals to seniors in need.
