Yes, that’s how Masterworks Choral Ensemble begins “A Season of Song,” it’s 34th concert series. On October 11, 2014 MCE begins its season of exciting, entertaining, and engaging music. All concerts are at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, just a short walk from the Olympia Senior Center.

Our first concert of the season, “Songs Macabre,” is Saturday, October 11, 2014. You probably know that Masterworks performs a lot of sacred music. But for this concert we found a lot of really good, and fun to sing, music about some decidedly un-saintly characters. A couple of spirituals – “Dry Bones” and “This House Is Ha’nted,” plus Benjamin Britten’s “Old Abram Brown,” “Transylvania Mania” from Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein are just a small sample of music at this concert.

We are also conjuring up a special “visitation” from a certain Phantom who likes opera.  It will be an evening that’s a lot more fun than fright. We promise not to scare you, but we’ll make music about the “ghoulies and ghosties, and long-leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night.” Be brave, my friends.

Masterworks Choral Ensemble also has a great new website. Changes, additions, updates and special promotions are all there. Come and join the fun!
