Headaches, back pain, and neck stiffness are just a few of the conditions that most of us are affected by daily. Aches and pains may be a result of an injury, stress or overuse. Tumwater Chiropractic Center offers both chiropractic care and massage therapy as independent or complementary treatments to provide a positive approach to healing and relief from pain.

“Our philosophy is that we want the patient to get better regardless of which service we can provide them,” explains Dr. Lonnie Lowe.  “We want to make treatments available and convenient to the patient so we are striving to offer services that complement each other in one location.”

Tumwater Chiropractic Center offers chiropractic care, massage therapy, rehabilitation center, and acupuncture. Dr. Lowe comments, “It is important to us to offer our patients options not only with the sort of treatments and services we provide but also with types of therapists and insurances. We intentionally sought Walter Hooker to join our team of massage therapists so that we would have a male on staff and the ability to serve those with Group Health insurance.”

“Not only is Walter one of the most experienced massage therapists in town, he is also one of a very select few who are contracted with Group Health insurance,” adds Dr. Kelly Golob. Now Group Health patients can receive highly effective massage therapy care at Tumwater Chiropractic Center through their Group Health insurance plan.

Tumwater Chiropractic Center believes in treatments that are complimentary so that the patient can get better.

Hooker has worked in both a chiropractic and physical therapy setting in the community for nearly twenty years. He is well regarded for his outcome based therapeutic massage approach.

Therapeutic massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress as well as improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness.

Hooker specializes in injury treatment with personalized treatment plans and uses a combination of deep-tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and a variety of other muscle techniques to help restore mobility and decrease pain.

Hooker shares an experience from a former patient who wrote him a highly memorable letter expressing how he had restored her life. She came to him with debilitating knee and hip issues. At the time she could not walk to the beach, a previous favorite activity.

She praised Hooker for having saved her life.  “Not too many people get to ‘save lives’ or get people back to their level of functioning where they can return to their normal daily activities pain free. It feels good to get that kind of recognition from patients. It feels even better just knowing how much massage therapy can help.”

Most of Hooker’s patients are seeking massage therapy due to injuries and conditions such as overuse syndromes. He reveals that while computers are supposed to make our work easier and better, the use of the computer has also required many of us to sit for long periods of time, creating neck strain and muscle tightening.

Whether due to computer use or other injuries and conditions, Hooker works with each patient to set goals toward their recovery. Hooker recognizes that every person’s goals are as different as their reason for initially seeking therapy. Some may have the goal of reducing the need for pain medication while others may seek an improved function with daily activities, increased range of motion, or an alternative to surgery.

Massage is often recommended along with chiropractic treatment, either before or after an adjustment as part of a longer treatment regimen. This combination of treatments often produces more effective results and faster healing in the patient.

One of the reasons for this is that both chiropractic and massage share a similar holistic goal of helping the patient achieve a state of total well-being not simply relief from immediate symptoms.
