For three decades, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington has been changing the lives of local youth, for the better, forever.  With a service area that spans 5 counties (Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor, and Pacific) thousands of youth have benefitted from these mentorships.  Youth (Little) matched with a caring adult (Big) in a one to one mentorship show measurable positive outcomes such as improved academics, more self-confidence, and avoidance of risky behaviors.  These friendships are truly transformative and have far-reaching benefits.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington hopes to reach 100 more youth before the end of 2014.  The cost to support one match for a year is roughly $1,200.  The math is simple; funding, less so.

“We are fortunate to have dedicated and loyal donors who support us.  But we want to give them a break – to think of a way to reach everyone,” explains Amy Evans, Interim Executive Director, “so we decided to ask for just $18.  That’s easy, right?  We are asking everyone – Bigs, staff, board members, friends, family, you.“  The hope is that after donating $18, the donor will commit to asking 3 friends to do the same, and to pass it on to 3 of their friends, eventually reaching 6,400 people and $100,000.

The centerpiece of this campaign is a music video parody of Jason Derulo’s recent hit.  The parody is called “Give 18, Baby” and features local matches.

You can view the music video and help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington Start SomethingTM for 100 local youth by donating to Give 18 at: www.swwabigs.org/give18.  The campaign runs from June 18 – July 18.
