Board Break a thonU.S. Martial Arts Center students and Washington State Taekwondo Foundation have received pledges of nearly $17,000 for their second annual board break-a-thon to be held at Chinook Middle School in Lacey, Saturday, May 31 at 11:00AM.

U.S. Martial Arts Center, founded by Grand Master Young-Hak Lee in 1983 is one of the original martial arts schools in Olympia.  Last year in celebration of their 30 years in the community US Martial Arts students chose to celebrate by giving back to the Thurston County community breaking over 2,000 boards to the tune of $24,000.  We hope to exceed that amount this year.

The funds will be split equally between Olympia and North Thurston School Districts.

Both districts will allocate their donations to the Principals’ Emergency Checkbook Fund.  Principals from each school use the Fund to purchase basic-need items for low-income students.  Over the years they have been able to make on-the-spot purchases of items such as clothing, food, school supplies, housing, utilities, medical care and transportation.

“When you kick through the board, you show support of a “can do” attitude towards support of our local schools. This is truly a way to show support to our community.” said event sponsor Master Lee of U.S. Martial Arts Center.
