Family Support CenterHappy Spring!  We are overjoyed to share with you some of the great things that happen when we work together with our community partners to build strong, healthy, self-sufficient families.
Success Story:  Jeannie and her 4 month old baby Jayden came to the Family Support Center to sign up for affordable healthcare benefits with help from one of our in-person assistants. During her appointment, Jeannie, an unexpectedly new single mom, shared that she was at her wits end and didn’t have the resources or support to give Jayden the life she dreamed of.

Jeannie came in for healthcare but left with so much more:  rental assistance, diapers, hygiene supplies, parenting information, food, breastfeeding support, job interview clothes, a new baby carrier, a bus pass, legal referral, counseling appointment, and information about other community resources and benefits Jeannie qualified for.

Next week, Jeannie and Jayden plan to join our playgroup where they will make new friends, bond, and play together in our Children’s Room, recently filled with lots of fun early learning equipment, free books, and educational toys, THANKS to the Olympia Rotary ClubJeannie also signed up to attend our  Power Parenting class next month offered in partnership with the Hands on Children’s Museum.

Jayden is off to a great start in life, because her mom knew the Family Support Center was here to help in our community.  Now Jeannie knows where to turn next time she needs help, before crisis hits.  Jeannie said, “You guys saved our lives, thank you!” Jayden’s risk of child abuse and neglect and other adverse childhood experiences (ACES) were reduced because Family Support Center programs and services promote Protective Factors.
