news olympia waThe City of Olympia has been recognized with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2012 annual financial report.  The Certificate is the highest form of recognition by GFOA in the area of government accounting and financial reporting.  Olympia has received this recognition 22 times since 1987.

In order to be awarded the Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must prepare an easily readable and efficiently organized Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The CAFR document must satisfy generally accepted accounting principles, applicable legal requirements, and high standards established by GFOA for transparent communication about the City’s finances and financial story.

“This award is a reflection of City Council and the City Manager’s commitment to conducting the City’s financial operations in a sound, progressive and transparent manner,” says Jane Ragland Kirkemo, Olympia’s Director of Administrative Services. “Preparation of this report could not have been accomplished without the professional, efficient, and dedicated services of the entire staff of the Administrative Services Department and staff from throughout the City organization,” says Kirkemo.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, DC.
