Step into DuPont Pharmacy and you are sure to be greeted with a variety of products and helpful staff. The shop is not your standard, run of the mill pharmacy, but instead boasts a personality all its’ own. “It’s important to us to be one of a kind,” explains owner/pharmacist, Jim Perrou.

Perrou, originally from the Midwest, has a strong relationship with our community. “After becoming a pharmacist and graduating from Purdue, I started working at a West Olympia pharmacy. I enjoyed working in an independent shop and wanted to take over the building, but it just didn’t work out. Determined to stay in the area that I live in and care for, I found this building in flourishing DuPont. We’ve been open for about 18 months now and steadily building our customer base.”

Part of building that customer base has included offering what other pharmacies may not be able to offer. “Our services are what we depend on to be a great business,” describes Perrou. “Our website allows for 24/7 prescription refills. We know how busy people can be and that they don’t want to wait around for their refills. By registering online, customers can have automatic refills made at a time that is convenient for them. We also do limited delivery to Olympia, Lacey, and DuPont.”

The DuPont Pharmacy staff prides itself on personalized service to every customer. “We are made up of a small, highly qualified team. We try to make connections with our customers. We pride ourselves on knowing our customer’s names. At a chain pharmacy, you are a number and that’s it. They try to shuffle as many people in and out as possible. Here, we are focused on making people feel welcome! We are always willing to go the extra mile to put a smile on someone’s face.”

Going above and beyond the usual assistance is the standard at this pharmacy. “We work hard to keep contact with healthcare providers,” says Perrou. “If a client has a prescription that we didn’t get a fax for, we do the leg work. We are willing to do the communicating and investigating necessary to take care of that prescription so our customers get the medical supplies they need. We feel that is a major part of our job. We also have the ability to work with a variety of vendors to make sure patrons receive the medicine they need as quickly as possible. If we promise something will be ready at a certain time, it will be ready.”

DuPont Pharmacy boasts a large parking lot for customer convenience.

Beyond the impeccable service and medical supplies, DuPont Pharmacy supports local businesses within their storefront. Local artists are showcased on the walls, candles created in Steilacoom line the shelves, and candy from nearby PJ’s Sweet Factory is available near the counter. “The candy doesn’t last long,” explains Perrou. “We have to restock that on a regular basis! I enjoy having items that are local in the store. Supporting our community is very important to us.”

The pharmacy also has an exhibit of antique toys throughout the building belonging to Perrou. “Collecting antique toys is a passion of mine! I’ve run out of room at home and decided it made great décor in the shop. It’s a lot of fun to have people come in and take a look at my collection. It gives the shop a lot of character and they make a great conversation starter!”

“We understand that going to the pharmacy isn’t always the favorite stop on the errand list. We want to try and change that,” declares Perrou. So whether you are looking for unmatched, community based pharmaceutical service, locally made gifts, or an extensive antique toy collection you can find it all in one spot at DuPont Pharmacy!
