Landscaping and open green spaces is a trademark of Rob Rice Homes communities.

Whether it was the first house or the 3,000th home, Rob Rice continues to place the same care into each roof he raises over a Thurston County family.

Rob Rice has been putting his name on homes in the South Sound area for nearly 30 years.  A local home builder, Rob’s office has been located in downtown Olympia, just across the street from Ralph’s Thriftway for many years.  A fixture on local non-profit boards and frequent donor too many non-profit organizations, Rob and his wife Helena are embedded in this community.

And, buying from a local builder is one aspect that sets apart Rob Rice Homes from the competition.

“I live here, my wife and I raise our kids here and we continually try and give back to the community we call home.  I take pride in physically walking every single home I build and I continue to invest in my communities for many, many years,” explains Rob.

“Helena and I own rentals in all of our communities and I manage many of our homeowners associations so I have a long-term investment in the communities that I build,” he continues.

As a local business owner, Rob invests back into the community by serving on three local boards – Thurston First Bank, Thurston Economic Development Council and Olympia Master Builders.  Rob and Helena are major donors to the construction of the new Hands On Children’s Museum and they lend financial support to the South Sound YMCA and Concern for Animals.

Rob is currently building in eight communities, including five located within Thurston County, two in Lewis County and one in Pierce.  Typically Rob’s communities range from 150-250 homes per neighborhood with six to twelve floor plans offered in each community.

Rob is somewhat unique in his building approach.  Most new home builders buy lots from developers and then build homes.  Rob operates his business completely different.  Rob is both the land developer and home builder which gives him the unique advantage of designing his neighborhoods with livability in mind.  “I strive to maximize the allowable open space in my communities so I can give my buyers space to enjoy the outdoors. Landscaping and open space coupled with quality construction are my trademarks and its evident in communities I’ve built in the early 1980s to the communities I build today.” states Rob.

“If you drive through one of our communities that was built 15 years ago, you will see how nicely the homes have aged with mature landscaping,” adds Rob. “Our realtors encourage our prospective buyers to tour our oldest communities so they can see for themselves how well they age.”

Location to buyers is paramount so most of Rob’s communities are located near schools, parks, shopping and I-5.

Rob welcomes home buyers to his Lacey design center where they can select interior finishes for no additional charge.

While each community is unique in its design and floor plans offered, Rob strives to offer buyers a variety of choices in floor plans, finishes, landscaping and more.

Buyers can buy a Rob Rice Home in two ways: they can either buy a house that is complete or they can take advantage of his unique pre-sale program.  “I allow my buyers to choose their desired lot, select a floor plan and then customize the home’s interior finishes at our design center in Lacey, all for no additional charge.” states Rob.

“There are times where there may be a lot premium or a buyer may choose a finish that is outside of our standard offerings, but it is somewhat rare.  I try and offer my buyers a lot of choices from our standard selections,” he concludes.
