New Life Baptist Church calls for an end to the high breast cancer mortality rate among women in Pierce and Thurston counties.

New Life Baptist Church will be joining with Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound Affiliate (Komen) on Saturday, October 26 for Worship in Pink Breast Health Symposium 2013, to provide breast cancer screening and breast health care education to women age 40 and older in Pierce and Thurston counties. Worship in Pink is a national campaign sponsored by Komen that works to spread the life-saving message of breast cancer early detection among women, particularly African American women who have the highest breast cancer mortality rate in America. The reason is a lack of annual breast cancer screening.   We are currently making appointments for mammograms. Please call the church office to schedule if you are 40 and older.

The Symposium, like last year will feature healthy cooking classes, health screenings, massage therapy, and discussion on mental fitness and well as a mini workout with a personal trainer from Health Whiz classes. It is open to all women age 40 and older in Pierce and Thurston counties, including those who will not receive breast cancer screening. Most health insurances are accepted and there is financial aid for uninsured women. Every woman screened will receive a rose. Every woman who attends will receive a gift bag and an invitation to a Women’s Wellness Luncheon that will be conducted by a representative from the American Diabetes Association.

New Life Baptist Church also invites the community to their Worship in Pink Service on Sunday, October 27 at 10:00 am. Enjoy praise dancing, survivor recognition, and the spoken word from a breast cancer survivor.  Wear pink to show your support of breast cancer early detection. New Life Baptist Church is located at 7838 Pacific Avenue SE in Lacey. Please come and share this special occasion.
