It’s A Kids Party At the Olympia Farmers Market This Weekend

kids happyThe Olympia Farmers Market is being turned over to the kids this weekend.  Don’t expect kids behind the counter doling out your change or little ones packing up your radishes, but you can expect to see a slew of families roaming through the Olympia Farmers Market stalls on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Ashley Powell, Assistant Market Manager, the weekend focus extends beyond fun activities like balloons and face painting.  Instead, the goal of the event is to promote healthy eating and encourage kids to select fruits and vegetables when picking a snack.

“This event is not only for families to have fun together but also to get your kids to love fruits and vegetables,” explains Powell.  “There are so many easy ways to prepare healthy foods for your family.”

The list of activities is a recipe for family fun in downtown Olympia.  On Saturday, create veggie art and taste test a new vegetable.  Make a vegetable character or play an ‘eat your colors’ game.  On Sunday, children’s music will be featured on the stage along with a magic show by Mike Budd.

Between the music and magic, focused on healthy eating of course, Powell says that there will be a short cooking demonstration.  “The cooking demo on Sunday will focus on easy healthy snacks for kids,” she adds.

The South Sound Reading Foundation and Hands On Children’s Museum will also be at the Farmers Market on Sunday.
