Town receives high marks in education, cost of living and economic growth

NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy and financial literacy website, has compiled a list of the best towns in Washington for raising kids.

Washington continues to make headway in creating jobs and offering healthy housing markets. Thus, it’s no surprise that couples ready to start planning a family are taking note.
NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, sought to better inform soon-to-be parents by analyzing five factors:

  1. Public school rating
  2. Average home value
  3. Ongoing cost of homeownership
  4. Average income
  5. Economic growth

Tumwater ranked fourth after assessing the town’s outstanding public school system, cost of living and robust economic growth. The town’s education system is recognized annually for excellence at every level and continuing to innovate.

Mike Anderson, the analyst who conducted the study noted, “This area south of Olympia is home to beautiful scenery and high-performing schools. Home costs are remarkably lower than other towns on our list, making Tumwater an excellent choice for families at different income levels. The town’s Parks and Rec offers a full range of programming to engage the whole family in exciting activities.”

In addition to Tumwater, several towns north in King and Kitsap counties also ranked high on the list.
