EDCThe Thurston Economic Development Council announced today the results of its second quarter 2013 Thurston Economic Vitality Index (EVI) results. All four indices were up for the second quarter, with the Thurston Consumer Confidence Index (TCCI) surging to 124, reaching its second-highest level since its inception in the first quarter of 2008. The attached table provides a snapshot of the results for the second quarter:

The EVI is designed to provide timely assessment of Thurston County’s economic climate through various assessment tools. The indicators provide a comprehensive picture of the local economy, which include the Thurston Consumer Confidence Index (TCCI), Thurston EDC CEO Index (TCEOI), Thurston Small Business Index (TSBI), Thurston Leading Economic Indicators Index (TLEII).

“Thurston County’s second quarter EVI strong results, for both businesses and households, validates strong confidence in our county and its potential for continued growth,” says Dr. Riley Moore, Associate Professor of Economics at St. Martin’s University and developer of the study. “State budgetary issues and national and international events continue to be items to monitor for their potential impact on our region.  However, the recent EVI results are likely being driven by positive trends in regional real estate, labor, and business profits as well as increasing consumer confidence and demand in Thurston County.”

In addition to the uptick in consumer confidence, new records were set for the TCEOI and TSBI indices in this past quarter, to 66 from 58 for the TCEOI, as well as to 66 from 62 for the TSBI. The TLEII continues to rise, standing currently at 96.5, a slight increase from the month prior. The TLEII currently implies that the Thurston County economy is continuing it steady climb upward.
