Thurston County residents can receive up to $1,000 in rebates on efficiency upgrades to their homes

Thurston Energy announces today that it is extending its Cold Ca$h for a Warm Home energy efficiency rebate program until June 21, 2013. The popular program, which has already put over $65,000 in rebates in the pockets of local residents, began in December 2012 to help residents of Thurston County more energy efficient, save money on their heating bills and be more comfortable in their homes.

Residents of Thurston County are eligible for the rebate program, which has three components: the HomePLUS energy evaluation, weatherization, and efficient heating upgrades.

  1. HomePLUS Energy Evaluation: Thurston Energy offers a $200 instant rebate off the price of its comprehensive energy evaluation, which uses diagnostics like the blower door and thermal camera to teach homeowners the most cost-effective means to improve their home’s energy performance.   Thurston Energy has partnered with five local providers to provide the services to Thurston County.
  2. Weatherization: Thurston Energy will rebate 30% up to $1,000 for weatherization work completed after a HomePLUS including insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, whole house ventilation (and more) completed by contractors on the Thurston Energy Vendor Network.
  3. Efficient Heating Upgrades: Thurston Energy will also rebate 30% up to $1,000 for efficient heating upgrades after a HomePLUS and weatherization, including 95% efficient gas furnaces, high-efficiency ducted heat pump systems, and ductless heat pump systems completed by contractors on the Thurston Energy Vendor Network.

Local contractors have also seen the benefit of this program. Since the program’s inception, Thurston Energy has seen steady growth in the number of contractors joining the Thurston Energy Vendor Network, bringing the total number of contractors on the network to almost thirty.  Over the last three months, more than 140 people bought HomePLUS evaluations (and took advantage of the $200 rebates).  More than 35 homes have already finished their energy improvement projects, and we know many more are still moving through the process.

Residents and business owners can visit Thurston Energy’s website at www.thurstonenergy.org or call 360.528.2112 to find out more information about how the program works.
