Governor Jay Inslee and officials of the state Department of Commerce have announced the City of Lacey to be a 2013 Energy Efficiency Grant recipient. The city will receive $108,000 in grant money towards energy-saving measures for city buildings.

Buildings included in the proposed project upgrades are Lacey City Hall, Animal Services, and the Lacey Community Center. Some of the enhancements include updating HVAC systems, adding occupancy sensors, and adding lighting conservation measures.

“Our continued achievements in energy conservation show that Lacey is taking this seriously,” said Mayor Virgil Clarkson. “I am delighted that Lacey has been chosen as a recipient of this grant.”

The 2012 state Legislature appropriated $38 million to the Washington State Department of Commerce for energy cost-saving grants for higher education and local governments. Of that amount, $18 million will go to local governments and $20 million to higher education.
