It has been 15 seasons since Capital High School’s last state championship in football, and after yesterday’s performance against Burlington-Edison High School in the 2A State Playoffs, the Cougars are one step closer to ending the drought.  The Cougars defeated BE 46-19 at Ingersoll Stadium, and will take on Lynden in the 2A state semi-finals next weekend (time and location TBA).

In 2002, the Cougars advanced to the 4A state title game (led by future University of Oregon player and state player of the year Jordan Carey) and fell 35-28 to Kentwood.  In 1998, a CHS team led by Skyler Fulton (who went on to play at Arizona State and in NFL Europe) defeated Mariner High School (led by future NFL and Stanford tight end Teyo Johnson) 29-27 in the 3A title game.  In 1996, the Cougars won the 2A state title game over West Valley High.
