Teens can enter online contest from November 1 through December 15 for chance at 1 of 5 e-readers.

High school teens have an opportunity to enter the Timberland Regional Library (TRL) online contest, “Teens’ Database Challenge,” from November 1 through December 15 for chances to win an e-reader. When teens correctly answer 14 questions using the TRL reference databases at www.TRL.org and submit entries on an online form, their names will be entered in a drawing to win one of five e-readers. Complete rules will be on the webpage beginning November 1.

The Contest: Teens must correctly identify all 14 databases from the questions on the online form. The contest will be conducted online only. Teens may enter once each day.

Contest Period: November 1 through December 15. Drawings take place December 17, 2012.

Who Can Enter: The contest is open to teens enrolled in a high school, an online high school program or high school-level home school. The participant must have a valid TRL card and reside within one of the library district’s five counties: Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Thurston. TRL employees and their family members are not eligible.

How to Begin: Go to www.TRL.org, click on the contest link and register.

Prizes: The main prizes are five e-readers. Other prizes include world atlases, laminated U.S. wall maps, and thumb drives. All prizes have been donated by the TRL Foundation and database vendors.

Winner Selection: Winners will be selected randomly from all entries that correctly identify all 14 databases. Winners will be notified by phone or email. The names of the winners and their libraries’ cities or communities will be published on the TRL website. Winners will pick up their prizes at their home Timberland libraries.

TIP! Teens are encouraged to browse the reference databases as much as they wish before selecting their answers. They’ll be able to print a copy of the questions page to mark while navigating the databases. Then they can select their answers in the online form.

TRL subscribes to dozens of online databases that are not available for free on the internet, but are accessible for free to TRL library card holders. The databases targeted in the teen challenge are information resources they can use every day for school work, personal interests and plotting their future.

TRL ran a reference database contest for adults in May and June this year that garnered 2,818 entries.
