This past week saw football return to local high schools, as teams throughout Thurston County participated in inter-county and out of state matchups a like.  One of the most anticipated matchups of the preseason in the Pacific Northwest was the clash between Lake Oswego (Ore.) and Olympia High School at Ingersoll Stadium on Friday, Aug. 31.  Lake Oswego is the defending Oregon 6A state champions and the number one team in their state (along with obtaining a national ranking) while Olympia, which went 10-2 a year ago, was ranked 9th among Washington 4A schools.  Olympia, which only returns seven starters on both sides of the ball from last year’s team, fell to Lake Oswego 34-0.  Despite the loss, the Bears still have a clean conference record, and will now focus on the highly anticipated Spaghetti Bowl matchup against cross town rival Capital High School on Friday, Sept. 7, at Ingersoll.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
