The YWCA of Olympia is pleased to announce that nominations for their annual Women of Achievement Celebration are now being accepted. Past honorees have included Senator Maria Cantwell, Senator Karen Fraser, Governor Christine Gregoire, Hands On Children’s Museum Executive Director, Patty Belmonte, and Community Foundation of South Puget Sound Executive Director, Norma Schuiteman.
The YWCA of Olympia will honor women throughout the South Sound who have inspired and shaped the community. Nominees can demonstrate this work in any field, from family life to business, theater to engineering. The agency hopes to honor women from diverse backgrounds and fields of interest. Eligible Women of Achievement Honorees are:
- residents of the South Puget Sound region
- women who have demonstrated inspiring and outstanding involvement in our community, and serve as an excellent role model
- women who represent the YWCA’s key values of social justice, stewardship, community service, and leadership.
Nominations are due to the YWCA by 5:00pm on Friday, August 24th. Nomination forms can be obtained by calling the YWCA at 352-0593, sending an email to ywca@ywcaofolympia.org, or on the agency website at www.ywcaofolympia.org.
Honorees will be formally announced to the community on September 14th. The celebration gala, “Women Of Achievement: Going the Distance” will take place on Thursday, November 1st from 5:30-8:30 PM at the Red Lion Hotel Forest Ballroom. The event will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of Title IX, a law passed in 1972 that requires gender equality for boys and girls in every athletic and educational program that receives federal funding. The event is open to the public and tickets are available by contacting the YWCA of Olympia at 352-0593.
