TUMWATER, WA. July 10, 2012: It is with great pleasure that Port Blakely Tree Farms announces the recipient of our first annual Environmental Education grant. This year’s winner is Pleasant Glade Elementary School from the North Thurston School District. They were selected by Port Blakely’s Charitable Giving Committee and will receive $2,000 to purchase educational supplies for outdoor nature observations and studies.

Port Blakely Tree Farms developed the grant to assist elementary schools in providing environmental education opportunities for students. Any school that participates in Port Blakely Tree Farms’ environmental education program in Washington and Oregon is eligible to apply for the annual grant.

Julie Wyatt, a fifth grade teacher at Pleasant Glade commented, “We are super excited to have been awarded the environmental education grant! It will be exciting for teachers across the grade levels to have a chance to take their students outside to learn about the great Puget Sound right in our own backyard.”

Kelly Stanley, environmental education coordinator for Port Blakely Tree Farms said, “Many of the schools that participant in our program have limited resources for even basic outdoor learning materials. We are thrilled to offer this grant and help get kids outdoors to explore.”
