In 1982, Allen Miller started calling Olympia “home”.  Fresh out of law school, Miller took a post as assistant attorney general.  His career has incorporated both private and public sector positions.  In total, Miller has spent ten years with the Attorney General’s office, two years as a Thurston County Prosecutor, and the remaining eighteen years as a private practice attorney.

Currently, Miller owns a private legal practice located on Budd Inlet in Olympia.  He represents clients throughout the South Sound as well and Western Washington.

The Law Offices of Allen T. Miller are dedicated to providing highly knowledgeable, ethical, and cost-conscious  representation in legal matters involving real estate, construction, land use, zoning and environmental law.  “Due to our firm’s small size and distinctive legal focus, I am able to provide all of our clients with personalized attention and focused legal representation,” describes Miller.

Miller’s life is entrenched in Thurston County.  For 27 years, Miller has been married to Dr. Maureen Callaghan, a local neurologist.  Together, they have raised three children, who have proudly graduated from Olympia High School before pursuing higher education in geology, finance, and chemistry.

The list of Miller’s civic duties, including his role in local professional associations, is impressive.  “I grew up in a household where community service was expected,” explains Miller.

He refers to Jim Ellis as a model.  Ellis is a Seattle attorney who is well known for cleaning up Lake Washington and building parks.  “I knew that I wanted to be that kind of a professional and community leader,” remarks Miller.

Miller has been involved in numerous community projects including cleaning up Capitol Lake, developing Heritage Park, and building Rotary Park along West Bay Drive.  Miller has also been supporting the legal profession by serving as a President of Thurston County Bar Association and as a leader of State Bar committees.

In conjunction with his legal practice, Miller has served as an arbitrator and mediator for over 15 years.  In this role, Miller serves as the decision maker in a dispute.  “I have a good demeanor and an even temper,” Miller describes.  He also states that arbitrators are not required to give reasons for their decisions.  However, his custom has been to “tell both parties why I made the decision I did.”

Recently, Miller decided to run for Superior Court Judge.  “I have been thinking about running for judge for the past 10-15 years, but have waited until the time was right for me and my family,” notes Miller when asked about his decision to seek the post.

“It’s unusual that three judges are retiring in the same year,” continues Miller.  Two seats are open and one judge’s retirement was filled by an appointment.

“I have tried cases in front of seven judges who have retired over my thirty year career.  I will bring to the bench: Judge Doran’s thoroughness, Judge Alexander’s sense of history, Judge Fuller’s compassion, Judge Hicks’ intelligence, Judge Berschauer’s affability, Judge Strophy’s decisiveness, and Judge Pomeroy’s optimism,” concludes Miller.
