Do you have your tickets yet?  If not, go get them or stop reading now!  Once you realize who will be at this year’s SLURP, you will not want to miss it.

SLURP, stands for Shellfish Lovers Ultimate Rejuvenation Party, and is a celebration of our areas best wine, brews and shellfish.  The 14th Annual SLURP is on April 29th from 5-8pm, and is held at the Fish Tale Brewery.  With your ticket, you get to sample eleven local wineries, enjoy some local Fish Tale brew, and taste a dozen different restaurant dishes.

Sponsored by Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association (PCSGA) and hosted by Fish Brewing, the brewery is tirelessly spruced-up and prepared for crowds.  The Burren Boys, a local Irish music band, will be back again this year adding to the festive atmosphere.  It’s all about celebrating our abundance of wonderful local food and drink options, by eating and drinking all you can.

Party goers will be able to sample a variety of shellfish, including mussels, clams, geoduck and oysters prepared by local restaurants.  The attendees can then vote for their favorite dish and favorite wine and the winners will be announced at the end of the evening.  Also, attendees can step up to the Grand Oyster Bar, a raw bar sponsors by local growers.

Not enough?  You won’t want to miss the celebrity oyster slurp-off, where seven contestants will face off to win the title of “fastest slurp” and inhale a plateful of oysters, without using their hands.  At the end of the evening, there is an auction where you can bid on items ranging from wine tastings, gift baskets, overnight trips to an outboard engine.

Most importantly, the proceeds of the auction and the event are used to promote a healthy Puget Sound.  Proceeds support the Puget Sound Restoration Fund, semi-annual beach clean-ups, and the PCSGA Marine Debris Hotine.  The Hotline is available 365 days a year and allows individuals to report beach debris and provides the organization needed to clean-up and haul away the debris.  This year’s proceeds will also be shared with the Bellingham Technical College Shellfish Aquaculture program and to help fund a documentary film series on the Willapa Bay oyster industry produced by Keith Cox, a local film producer.  This event may be the most delicious way to support Puget Sound restoration and education efforts.

This event usually sells out at the door, so go early to take advantage of the great atmosphere and to ensure a ticket.  You can save a couple of dollars and get your tickets ahead of time by visiting www.PCSGA.com or get your tickets in person at Fish Tale Brewery or Bayview Market.  Tickets are $50 per person in advance or $60 at the door.  Save some oysters for me!
