After interviewing seven candidates on Saturday, March 31, the Tumwater City Council is pleased to welcome Nicole Hill to the Council. At their Tuesday, April 3rd Council meeting, members of the Tumwater City Council voted to appoint Ms. Hill to Council Position 1, vacated by Ed Stanley upon his passing in February. Nicole’s appointment to the City Council is effective until November 2013 at which time she would be required to run for election.
A two-year resident of Tumwater, Nicole received a Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from Indiana’s Ball State University, and a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University in South Carolina. In 2007, Nicole organized and incorporated twenty-six land trust organizations to found the Washington Association of Land Trusts. She is currently the Project Manager for Nisqually Land Trust and owner of Hill Consulting. Among other interests, Nicole’s focus on the Tumwater City Council will include building stronger neighborhoods and increasing community involvement; attracting public and private investment to Tumwater; and attracting compatible economic development.
The Mayor and City Council feel that Nicole Hill’s background and experience uniquely qualify her for appointment and will make her an asset to the City Council. Mayor Pete Kmet stated, “I was impressed with the caliber of the applicants to fill the City Council vacancy. On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank those who submitted applications and took part in the interviews. Nicole has a strong background in land use planning, conservation, and real estate that will be a great asset for the Council and the City.”
