Kumon Math & Reading Center of Lacey and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)

What:                   Families are invited to attend a free literacy open house with read aloud sessions featuring selections from Kumon’s Recommended Reading List. Families are encouraged to bring a new book to donate to RIF’s local chapter. Refreshments, games and prizes will be provided for all who attend the event.  Arrive by 1:30 p.m. to see Billie Mazzei, a dramatic reader from our local South Sound Story Guild, reading a selection from Kumon’s Recommended Reading List to local children. Why:                     Kumon joins forces with RIF to bring books to underprivileged children through a $50,000 donation and a nationwide literacy open house at participating Kumon Math and Reading Centers in the United States. For each new student enrollment during the month of March, Kumon North America, Inc. will donate $10, the equivalent of four new books, to RIF.

Kumon’s Recommended Reading List contains 520 books designed to help parents select material that enhances their child’s appreciation and understanding of the English language and develop a lifelong love for reading. Many of the books on the Recommended Reading List have won literary awards such as the Newbery and Caldecott medals, the Pulitzer Prize, and the National Book Award, which is presented by the National Book Foundation. The list covers a range of titles from read-aloud books to the classics.
