Saturday, November 12, saw the initial running of the Deschutes River Cyclocross Race at Tumwater’s Pioneer Park.  Sponsored by Cramer Dentistry, the event marked the return of cyclocross to the Olympia area after a multi-year absence.

Organizer Erik Anderson of South Sound Velo and the Olympia Orthopedic Cycling team hopes to make the race an annual event.

Local riders, used to driving to the Seattle area to find races, came out in force and had a successful showing in most categories.  In particular, junior riders from local development team Revel Consulting/Rad Racing Northwest dominated the junior races and even placed riders on the senior category podiums.

Ethan Casebolt – 1st junior 10-12

Lewis Whiley – 1st junior 13-14

Ayden Young – 1st junior 15-16 and 2nd in men’s category 4.

Andrea Casebolt – (15) 1st in women’s category 3

David O’Brien – (15) 2nd in men’s category 3

Riders from Olympia Orthopedic team also did well.

Lauren Cramer – 1st women’s category 4

Jennifer Burtner – 1st women’s single speed

Derrick Archibald – 2nd in men’s single speed

John Flack – 2nd men’s category 1-2 (elite)
