$4,500 Grant To Artistically Enhance The New Artesian Well Project

The City of Olympia’s Parking Business Improvement Area (PBIA) has funded a $4,500 grant to artistically enhance the new Artesian Well Project in downtown Olympia. One artist will be chosen to paint the vertical elements for the new Artesian Well. Proposal deadline is Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at 5:00 p.m.  Applicants must reside or own a business in Thurston County or be actively involved in the Olympia/Thurston County arts community.

The Artistic component of the project is slated to be completed in the spring of 2012.  The infrastructure work and the completed Artesian Well itself, should be completed by January of 2012, weather permitting.

Selection Process and Criteria

Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of PBIA members and one local art professional.  The artist will be selected by December 1, 2011.

Deliberation will be based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic merit and creativity
  • Originality of design
  • Quality of work presented (digital images)
  • Demonstrated ability of the artist to produce large scale, outdoor work
  • Compliance to guidelines and submission requirements
