Ken Balsley had a Tree planted in his Honor, for the Second Time!

A few decades ago, a tree was planted on the Lacey Historical Library Grounds in honor of Balsley. He has been part of the Lacey community since before Lacey gained city status.

This year Balsley watched a second tree being planted on the same grounds in his name.  It replaced the original tree which had been cut down by city workers.  The tree was reportedly being suffocated by neighboring cedar trees.  The tree needed to be cut down.

In contrast with the original tree planting, Balsley, along with his wife, son and grandchildren witnessed the recent planting of the second tree.

Ken joked about what happened, “I couldn’t believe it when they told me! All I could think of was who could have done such a thing?”

The City of Lacey apologized for the inadvertent cutting of his first tree. Balsley
expressed appreciation for the replanting of his tree.
All is well that ends well.
