The 17th Annual Procession of the Species Celebration: Dates and Event Times

Created by the community for the community, the Procession of the Species is a colorful and joyous street pageant using the languages of art, music and dance to inspire cultural appreciation, understanding and protection of the natural world. Come celebrate your element: Earth, Air, Fire or Water. Rain or Shine!

Friday Night 9:30 PM – Element of Spirit Luminary Procession!
In celebration of the 5th Element of Life – Spirit – the 7th Annual Luminary Procession begins in front of the Capitol Theater at 5th and Washington, and proceeds to Capitol Lake for a magical luminary display. Weather dependent!

Saturday 2:30 PM – Hold the Earth Street Chalk Art Mandala
Featured Local Artists will be on hand to lead the creation of a beautiful Street Chalk Art Mandala large enough to fill the intersections at Legion and Capitol Way! Chalk provided – come help fill in the colors!

Saturday 3:30 PM – Chalk in the Streets
While you wait for the Procession to begin, local community organizations will hand our 7,000 pieces of colorful street chalk along the route for you to draw the art of nature in the streets. Please respect your downtown merchants and keep chalk on the streets and of the buildings. Thank you!
