Headlines for months have screamed about the enormous gap in the State budget between projected revenue and expenses.

There are as many opinions as people as to how the State can cut expenses, but how does the State predict how much money will be in the coffers?

The Chief Economist for the State of Washington and Executive Director of the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council, Arun Raha, will be on hand at the Chamber’s March 9 Forum to provide insights to this important question.

Arun is responsible for preparation and presentation of quarterly forecasts of Washington’s economy and general-fund revenues. He also advises state legislative committees and other government agencies regarding economic and revenue activity in the state.

Dr. Raha was formerly vice-president, Economic Research, at Swiss Re in New York, a leading global reinsurer, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. There he was responsible for forecasts of North American macroeconomic, financial, and property-casualty insurance markets.

Arun has a Ph.D. in Economics from Washington State University, and a Masters from the Delhi School of Economics. He has won two national forecasting awards.

Forum at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Martin’s University Norman Worthington Center. It includes lunch and is $30 general admission, $20 for prepaid Chamber members and $25 for members at the door. Reservations are requested online at ThurstonChamber.com/events.
