Yelm’s quaint Blue Bottle Café has undergone a massive overhaul. A brand new color scheme inside and out, and a gigantic pizza oven, have replaced the last vestiges of the former coffeehouse. In a town where a stand-alone Starbucks and a couple of Mexican restaurants, were the only decent places to sit down and eat, La Gitana (309 East Yelm Avenue Yelm, WA 98597) has caused quite a stir in the restaurant scene. The tiny building is packed to the brim with salivating patrons (especially on Friday and Saturday evenings) on a regular basis ever since the restaurant opened in January.
La Gitana is an authentic Italian pizzeria all the way. The smell of the wood-fired pizza oven fills the establishment, as well as the sound of rich Italian music. Thus creating a warm and inviting atmosphere especially in the evenings. The food is amazing. There are a plethora of delicious pizzas to choose from, such as the, “Ham, Feta cheese, and Red Onion Pizza”, the, “Proscuitto Pizza,” and many, many more. All of which are made to order, and with entirely fresh ingredients. The flavors are vibrant, fresh and play off of each other beautifully. Each pizza is about fourteen inches in diameter and thin-crusted, varying in price from twelve to eighteen dollars each depending on the toppings. Also available is a choice of platter-style entrees (pretty pricey I might add) and salads, as well as a comprehensive beer and wine list.
While the menu is slightly pricy, the quality of the food is amazing and well worth it. If you cannot make it out to the restaurant, La Gitana does deliver. They do not have a website with more detailed just yet, however their phone number is: (360) 400-2929.
