Parking Rates Increase at 3- and 9-hour Meters in September

The previously announced rate increases at Olympia’s 3- and 9-hour parking meters go into effect Tuesday, September 7, 2010.  Not changing are rates for 15-minute meters and the new parking Pay Stations. Parking staff will be in the field on Tuesday, September 7, changing out stickers and reprogramming meters.

Meter Type Current Rate New Rate
3-hour meters $0.50 per hour $ 0.60 per hour
9-hour meters $0.35 per hour $0.50 per hour
15-minute meters Penny, nickel or dimebuys 15 minutes No change
2-hour Pay Stations $1.00 per hour No change

All 3- and 9-hour meters continue to provide 15 minutes of free time, as long as there is no time on the meter.  Just push the button and 15 minutes of free time will be displayed on the meter.  Also, remember that remaining time on any pay station receipts is good at 3- and 9- hour meters that same day.

Save Money and Purchase a 9-hour Parking Permit

  • Permits cost only $60 per month and are valid for 9-hour meters only.
  • Save More with Group Rates:  Organize your co-workers and purchase in groups of 20 or more and pay only $50!  9-hour Parking Permits can be purchased at the Parking Services Office. Go online at www.olympiawa.gov/parkingpermit to learn more.

Why are Rates Increasing?

  • A core strategy of the Parking Business Plan, adopted by the City Council in 2009, is movement toward self-sustaining rates so that parking programs and services pay for themselves.
  • Another key strategy is to get the right user in the right space.  Rates were calculated by looking at current prices and occupancy levels, as well as analysis of other similarly sized and structured cities.  Questions? Contact Parking Services at 360.753.8017
